Cirilo Rabbit Saltshaker made by hand in Oaxaca Mexico
From various workshops taught by Innovando La Tradición, the boys and women from Tonaltepec have developed a great variety of products that tell stories about their daily environment. These little animal salt shakers are an example of the prescence of nature in the lives of the artesans of clay.
These pottery pieces are among the few in the world that use vegetable pigments for decoration. The dark brown color of the stains is achieved when, upon pulling them out of the kiln, at a temperature close to 900°C, the artisan applies an ink made from cactus and oak bark.
